PURPOSE: To update the participants on metabolic syndrome

OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this seminar, the participant should be able to:   

•    Discuss the growing epidemic of type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome
•    Define the metabolic syndrome and identify patient characteristics of this disease
•    Discuss the metabolic syndrome and its impact on morbidity and mortality
•    Describe treatment targets and clinical management of metabolic syndrome
•    Apply the clinical management of metabolic syndrome to patient cases
