Pharmacy Education and Training

  Debra P. Futrell, PharmD, Director

The Department of Pharmacy serves as a resource for practicing pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other health professionals in the five counties of Area L AHEC.  Area L AHEC is a leader in ambulatory care pharmacy practice, with Directors of Pharmacotherapy providing patient care  at clinics in Jackson, Scotland Neck and Wilson.  Clerkship training for pharmacy students from The University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy and Campbell University School of Pharmacy is provided at these three clinics, and also at the four hospitals and a variety of pharmacy practices in the area.  Students are invited to inquire about clerkships available in the region by contacting the AHEC Director of Pharmacy Education.  Continuing education programs for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are provided on a regular basis, and allow practitioners to acquire new skills and upgrade present knowledge.  Other healthcare professionals are invited to attend any pharmacy continuing education program of interest to them. Technical assistance regarding grants and other pharmacy related matters, as well as clinical consultation, is available to all health professionals in the Area L AHEC service region.
